Student Trainee (Hydrology), USGS Wyoming Water Science Center, Cheyenne, Wyoming

How Sarah Jeanne Davis got involved with U.S. Geological Survey
I found out about applying for a SCEP position from my instructors at school. I attend Western Dakota Tech in South Dakota. Both my main instructor's are retired from the USGS.
At this time, my main highlight is going on a Water Quality Field Run. I am stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming and every site we go to is at least a 2 hour drive away. On our long drives we have amazing views of a few different mountain ranges, this makes the driving not so bad. One week me and two others went out and collected water quality samples at a few sites. While we were at the sites we did a number of different things like getting a discharge measurement, surveying a new cable way location, and removing a downed tree. The tree had affected gage height during high flows, so it had to be removed. This has been my favorite experience this far. We got to stay a few nights throughout Wyoming, so that was fun seeing other places. I am in the office from time to time as well, so I am learning date input methods as well. I enjoy doing data entry, but sometimes need a break to get outside.
Sarah Jeanne Davis' accomplishments
So far I have been able to build on skills I was shown in school. Previous knowledge and further understanding has helped me compelete the work I have been given. I have also been shown new things that I had not seen in school yet, so it has been fun learning. I feel that I try my best every day and I am happy with what I have learned and look forward to new things in the future.
Sarah Jeanne Davis' next steps
At this point I am not sure where I want to end up. My SCEP experience with the USGS has been great. I plan to finish school next spring and get a full-time job after that. I have been looking into going on with more school, but am unsure at the time if that is what I want to do.
