MobilizeGreen Intern, Chugach National Forest, Anchorage, Alaska
U.S. Forest Service

How Haley Huff got involved with U.S. Forest Service
During the school term, I work closely with the Center for Community Engagement and Learning at the University of Alaska Anchorage as an ENGAGE Liaison (www.uaa.alaska.edu/engage). In this position, I work alongside community agencies, university faculty, and students to promote civic engagement and service-learning. Aaron Poe, Partnership Specialist from the Chugach National Forest, contacted the office about the MobilizeGreen position. I thought it sounded perfect for my interests and abilities, so I applied.

Experience
I will always remember the passion and charisma of the people that I work with every day.

Haley Huff's accomplishments
The most rewarding accomplishment working on the Chugach National Forest is igniting the fire for the outdoors in others. It is amazing when Anchorage residents that have never been on the forest are captivated by the Alaskan wilderness for the first time. Many live so close to such an amazing resource but have never been able to experience it. By organizing these trips, I have become a better mentor and leader, skills that will be invaluable in any future organization.

Haley Huff's next steps
I plan to graduate in 2013 from the University of Alaska Anchorage. From there, I will pursue a master’s in Environmental Public Policy or Glacial and Quaternary Geology. I would like find a way to combine my love of science and my passion for working with people.
