How Ashley Brooke Liddiard got involved with U.S. Geological Survey
I discovered the student program through a classmate. She graduated two years before I did, and she had been converted from a STEP to a SCEP. After her conversion, they asked her to provide a list of students she thought would be qualified for the position she had just vacated. I was one in the pool of candidates. After a month of providing my resume, interviews, and a background check, I finally came on to the team as a STEP. Since then, I have been converted into the SCEP program.
I will always remember taking a lab tour with two of the scientists on my team. After I first started, it was difficult to see how my duties impacted the team. One day, two of the team scientists escorted the administration staff around the different labs in our building. As we went along, our tour guides not only explained some of the science that happened, but how the administrative staff supports them. This was entirely fascinating for me becuase it allowed me to see how much job impacted the team as well as why we have certain policies in place at the USGS.
Ashley Brooke Liddiard's accomplishments
Thus far, I have made it my goal to absorb policy and to learn about the law. Now, I know that I have barely scratched the surface of the policies I interact with on a daily basis, but I have certainly come a far way in my knowledge. Since I majored in politics, this has been a major accomplishment for me both professionally and personally.
Ashley Brooke Liddiard's next steps
I would like to remain working in administrative, governmental positions for the forseeable future. Eventually, I would like to take my knowledge and go work in the school system either as a teacher or an administrator. It is my goal to learn as much as I can for now and then use that base to help others learn, grow, and work towards their own goals.
